Who we are

Art builds better communities

Art Exposure was founded in 2000 to expose the community to art through exhibits, education and events. We believe that everyone can enjoy making, viewing and purchasing art. We provide the atmosphere and inspiration to make that happen. We provide art classes for children and adults to encourage the creation process. We offer alternate display spaces to artists as well as professional development workshops to make the exhibit process possible. We plan art appreciation events to make the art buying process enjoyable.

Mission — Benefit artists and local business

Displayed artwork improves the appearance of the Downtown area and maintains a pleasant image. It is hoped that the artistic works encourage passers-by to appreciate the work of local artists and to consider the role of art in everyday life. The audience for this program includes tourists, employees working in and around the participating buildings, and residents who live and utilize the services of businesses in the Downtown area. The program assists artists in marketing their artwork through exhibit opportunities, curatorial services, publicity packages and seminars on professional development.

Funding

A commission from the sales of artwork, annual membership fees paid by artists and the venues help to fund the organization. It is also funded by grants from the Abel Foundation, the Leidy Foundation and the Gladding Foundation.

Art Exposure is continuously expanding into Frederick, Annapolis, Howard County, Maryland; and Washington, D.C.
