Who we are
Art builds better communities

Original artwork can add a measure of beauty to an office lobby or a storefront window. Displaying local artists' creations shows a business' involvement in its community. Changing art exhibits create vitality in public spaces.

In July, 2000, Ann Wiker created Art Exposure, Inc. as part of the revitalization efforts in Downtown Baltimore. The organization consists of displays of local artists' original artwork in lobbies of office buildings, theatres, law firms, universities, hotels, cafes and restaurants. The artwork is rotated on a four to eight week basis and is offered for sale. The program started with nine artists and five buildings (venues for displayed artwork). To date, there are over seventy artists and forty venues participating throughout Baltimore, Frederick, Annapolis, DC and Columbia.

Mission — Benefit artists and local business
Displayed artwork improves the appearance of the Downtown area and maintains a pleasant image. It is hoped that the artistic works encourage passers-by to appreciate the work of local artists and to consider the role of art in everyday life. The audience for this program includes tourists, employees working in and around the participating buildings, and residents who live and utilize the services of businesses in the Downtown area. The program assists artists in marketing their artwork through exhibit opportunities, curatorial services, publicity packages and seminars on professional development.

Funding

A commission from the sales of artwork, annual membership fees paid by artists and the venues help to fund the organization. It is also funded by grants from the Abel Foundation, the Leidy Foundation and the Gladding Foundation.

Art Exposure, Inc. is continuously expanding into Frederick, Annapolis, Howard County, Maryland; and Washington, D.C.
