Art Classes for Adults: Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced Oil Painting

Beginners will learn the basics of oil painting: prepping the canvas, mixing colors, brush techniques, composition and light and shadow. Intermediate painters will review color mixing and composition and choosing subject matter. Advanced painters will receive individualized instruction based on their ability level.

Art Classes for Adults: Beginner/Intermediate/Advanced Watercolor Painting

Watercolor Painting has been at the foundation of every artists career since the late 1500's and is still used widely today among artists and draftsmen. This class will cover all the classic watercolor techniques as well as more abstract and experimental ones. Watercolor is the perfect medium for those just getting started and yet challenges even the most skilled painters. Students will also learn how to draw and paint with watercolor pencils. Art Classes for Adults: Abstracting for Intermediate Painters

Have you ever said, "I could paint that?" Let's find out if you can! We will create paintings without subject matter in acrylic or oil paints. We will study color, texture, composition and brush technique. We will experiment with different sized canvases and brushes and with collage techniques. This is a great opportunity to use abstracting to amplify your developing technique. Supply list will be mailed. Art Classes for Adults: Introduction to Digital Photography

Mondays 3/31/14-4/21/14 7-9pm at 1419 Riverside Ave. Instructor: PJ Siam--description:This introductory digital photography course is a journey through the four key components of photography: 1. the photographer, 2. the camera, 3. the photo and 4. the audience. Over five weeks, PJ Siam of Planet Awkward will cover both the mechanical and artistic sides of digital photography, including the components and features of the basic digital camera, the art principles involved in making creative and rewarding photos, and the human considerations of the self and the audience that are inherently embedded in the world of photography. Drawing for Beginners, Intermediate, Advanced

(ages 12 and up) This class will focus on a variety of drawing approaches, from the realistic to the abstract. Special attention will be given to the area of portraiture. Beginners will be introduced to the basics of drawing, including exercises that appeal to both its technical and creative components. Intermediate and advanced students will receive individualized instruction as they work to improve and refine their skills. Supply list will be emailed. Art Classes for Adults: Plein Air Painting

Once you've copied "the masters" and worked from your own photographs, the next challenge for painters is to paint outdoors. Using drawing materials, watercolor, acrylic and oil paints, we will render cityscapes, seascapes, still lifes and landscapes in this class that meets Saturdays 9:30am-12:30pm 4/25/14-5/24/14 outside at various locations in Baltimore (Ft McHenry, Federal Hill Park, Cross St Market, Riverside Park, Fort Ave. industrial space). The first class will start at 1419 Riverside Ave., Baltimore, MD 21230. A material list will be emailed upon registration. Intermediate and advanced painters (this class is not for beginners) will receive individualized instruction based on their ability level. Instructor: Nick Aumiller. Cost $95 + supplies.

Art Classes for Adults: Beyond Basic Digital Photography – Putting it all together

This class works on putting it all together. You have learned about shutter speeds and f/stops; now practice and expand on how to use them in creating the images you want. This class will cover subjects such as composition, metering the image, creating depth and more.There will also be the opportunity to receive constructive criticism and critique of your images PREREQUISITES: A digital SLR camera, completion of the Introduction to Digital Photography course or a full working knowledge of your digital SLR. These can be private lessons (1 student at $40/hr) or maximum of 4 students at $10/hr. These lessons can be scheduled at your convenience and are held at 1419 Riverside Ave, Baltimore MD 21230 (Federal Hill)

Sewing/Knitting

Glass artist Nonnie Lyketsos will instruct on designing, cutting, and gluing the artwork. She will fire the assembled pieces at her studio and within a week after the workshop, your art will be ready to be picked up and hung. Art for Creative Growth

Have you ever wanted to tap into your creativity, but aren’t sure how to start? Would you like to make art but are afraid it will be “ugly” or you “will do it wrong”? Are you an artist who is currently having “writer’s block”? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then this class is for you!Using both traditional materials (painting, drawing, etc) and non-traditional materials (tissue paper, found objects, etc), Planet Awkward artist Lucia Siam will help you explore and cultivate your creativity. Projects in this class will focus on unlocking the doors to your creative self through the process of making art, not on having a “finished product”.Students will discover the importance and benefits of engaging in the art making process, with the goal for them to leave the class with more tools in their arsenal for creative self-expression. Artist Roundtable

This is an opportunity to meet other artists who are practicing and displaying their work, to view portfolios and receive feedback on your own, even to barter for artwork. There will be discussions of framing, pricing, printing technologies, paper qualities, grouping bodies of artwork, adding value to your work, creating inventories, copyrights, choosing venues, festivals/events, etc. The sessions will be moderated and we will have break out sessions by medium - (i.e. photographers can meet with other photographers). These will be unintimidating, social events and hopefully, very helpful to your work as artists. Feel free to register for one or both.
